I am extremely disappointed with this clinic and will not be returning. The fundamental issue is that two staff members who were not licensed veterinary technicians attempted the blood draw before a licensed technician was finally called in. We were never told they were unlicensed until after both attempts failed. We brought our 6-pound Chihuahua in for a routine annual exam today and agreed to a $300+ blood test panel they recommended because we care about her health. The first staff member spent a long time manipulating the needle in my dog’s leg trying to find a vein but could not get a sample. The second staff member then attempted as well but only managed to draw an insufficient amount of blood. My dog ended up with two needle sticks—one in each leg—before a licensed technician stepped in. I was told my dog is small and difficult to draw blood from, but her size was obvious from the start. If a licensed technician was required, that should have been decided before any attempts were made. Most concerning, the veterinarian later wrote: “We have made a note in their file that only licensed technicians should perform their blood draws.” That raises the question of why a licensed technician was not assigned from the beginning. This experience seriously damaged my trust in the clinic. I expect qualified staff and better judgment for routine procedures, especially for a very small dog.
